KARACHI, Oct 29: Work at Gwadar fish harbour-cum-mini port was suspended on Tuesday as daily wage workers went on strike to protest against delay in regularization of their jobs, it is learnt here.

The mini-port that begun its trial operation in 1993 is being run without proper staff and 56 workers were appointed on daily wages for security.

It is learnt that the services of the employees have not been confirmed although more than nine years have passed.

There has always been shortage of skilled manpower but the authorities have been hesitant to appoint permanent staff on one pretext or the other.

A few years back some 150 posts were sanctioned by the federal establishment but they too could not be filled.
