SUKKUR, June 8: No movement for shifting of people living on, along and even beyond Bunder Wall was seen here on Wednesday despite an agreement signed between Bunder Wall Action Committee and the government on Monday for eviction.
The wall was built in the colonial area to save the city from the onslaught of floods.
During a visit to the area, people living on the river land inside the wall were seen relaxed; they were enjoying their usual life.
They were not ready to leave their houses at any cost. However, they were ready to resist strongly if they were forced from the Sindh government, the district administration or police to leave their houses.
Chairman of Bunder Wall Action Committee Haji Allah Ditta at the time of signing the agreement had assured the government that shifting of the people living inside the wall would be started from June 8, but not a single family was found shifting throughout the day.
Personal assistant Abid Ansari of government representative Senator Islamuddin Shaikh told this correspondent that preparation for payment of compensation to A, B, and C category house owners, who would leave their occupation, was under process and no compensation was paid to anyone.
The district government has asked shopkeepers and owners of godowns, industrial units and buffaloes pens to shift their material and other valuables immediately, otherwise it would be removed forcibly and the administration would not responsible if they suffered any loss during bulldozing of shops.
An announcement was made on a police department van throughout the day for evacuation, but the residents paid no attention.
