LAHORE: Eight players have qualified for the second round after winning their respective matches on the opening day of the two-day of the International Squash Tournament’s qualifying round at the Punjab Squash Complex here on Monday.

On Tuesday, four more qualifying round matches will be decided and the winners will enter the 16-man main draw, which starts from Wednesday.

Though there are no foreign players, barring Amir Khan of the UAE, are participating in this international event, secretary of the Punjab Squash Association, Rana Tariq, claimed that the tournament is classified as an international event because Pakistan had deposited fees to the international body and further Pakistani international players will be participating.

He said the non-participation of foreigners is also a blessing in disguise for Pakistan’s international level players since it would help them to improve their rankings.
