KOHAT/LAKKI MARWAT, May 9: Militants killed a tribesman from Orakzai Agency on charges of spying in Khwasi Banda area here on Monday.

Waris Khan told Jarma police that militants killed his brother Shamsur Rehman, as they thought that he was spying on them. He said that his family had been receiving threats from Taliban for quite long.

He also named Bilal and Behram, both residents of Orakzai Agency, in the FIR.

In Lakki Marwat, military officials asked the elders of Bettani tribe to ensure that militants could not use their soil for carrying out subversive acts and cooperate with security forces and law enforcement agencies to maintain peace in the region.

Addressing a tribal jirga in Tajori on Monday, security officials urged Bettani tribesmen to stop any possible infiltration of militants into Frontier Region of Lakki as presence of anti-state elements would disturb peace there.

“Besides affecting development process, the presence of militants in the region will also add to miseries of tribesmen,” they said.

Among others Malik Zaitullah Shadikhel, Dilbar Shah, Afzal Khan, Sherabat Khan and officials of political administration attended the jirga.

“Keep an eagle eye on the activities of militants as they are the enemies of peace,” officials told the elders, calling upon them to extend full support to security forces for maintaining sustainable peace and tranquility in the region.

They also expressed concern over polio cases in FR Lakki and urged tribesmen to cooperate with polio teams so as to save their children below five years of age from the crippling disease.

“A paralysed and crippled nation cannot put the country on track of progress. So all segments of society should launch concerted efforts to wipe out polio completely,” they said.

The officials assured the elders that pace of development would be accelerated to ensure provision of basic amenities to tribal people. “Peace is inevitable for progress and development,” they said.
