KARACHI, May 5: The Kharadar police on Thursday registered a case against unidentified robbers who allegedly took away gold worth more than six million rupees from a jewellery shop in the Sarafa bazaar of the area a day earlier, officials said.

They said that the FIR (194/2011) was registered under Sections 392 (punishment for robbery) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code against the robbers who allegedly held the shopkeepers hostage and ran off with around 1.5 kilograms of gold and jewellery.

“The owner of the shop, Muhammad Yasin, has lodged the FIR,” said SP Saqib Sultan of the City Town.

He said that investigations were under way to determine the exact value of the stolen commodity and people behind the robbery.

Officials with the investigation arm of the police station, however, said that the incident was reported much later than it occurred.

“There is also a workshop attached to the shop in Yousuf Mansion in the Sarafa bazaar,” said an investigation official.

“According to the complainant, two armed men entered the facility and held the staff hostage. They collected pure gold as well as jewellery. The bandits took a few minutes to complete their job,” the police official said.
