KARACHI, April 26: Assailants gunned down two men in as many localities of the city on Tuesday, police said. They said 28-year-old Subhan Siddiqi was sitting with friends in New Karachi’s Sector 4 when two armed men on a motorbike emerged there.

“One of the riders got off the two-wheeler, pulled out a pistol and first fired multiple shots into the air,” said an official at the Khawaja Ajmer Nagri police station. “The firing caused panic and people ran for safety. The assailant then fired at Subhan.”

The victim sustained a single bullet wound in the head and died on the spot, he said, adding that the assailants ran away after executing the job.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

“The victim’s family denied that he was affiliated with any political group or any other association. We have not been able to trace any enmity as the motive behind the incident,” said the official.

Meanwhile, a truck driver was shot dead in the Malir City area on Tuesday, police said.

They said the truck driver, 46-year-old Ishaq Muhammad, was hit by two bullets in the chest and the head when he came out of his home for some personal work.

“The victim lived in a rented house on Pir Mahfooz Road in the Malir City area,” said an official at the Malir City police station. “It’s an early morning incident and there was no witness. The victim was found shot dead minutes after he came out of his home. The motive behind the killing is not clear.”

Woman, man found shot dead

A young woman was found shot dead near the Malir River on Tuesday, police said.

The police said that the victim, who appears to be in her late twenties, was killed at least three to four days ago and the body was beyond recognition.

“She was wearing a burqa and also had footwear,” said Sub-Inspector Ejaz Lodhi, the officer in charge of the Khuldabad police post of the Shah Latif Town police station. “A single bullet wound was found around her waist. The victim has not yet been identified.”

The bullet-riddled body of a young man was found in Gulistan-i-Jauhar’s block 2 on Tuesday.

“The victim was wearing black trousers and a shirt,” said an official at the Gulistan-i-Jauhar police station. “The body was found in the bushes near an apartment in block 2. The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities, from where it was moved to the Edhi morgue in Sohrab Goth for want of identification.”

The police said that the victim sustained a single bullet wound in the head.
