KHAR, April 23: Five people, among them a lashkar head, were killed and eight others injured when a suspected suicide bomber attacked their convoy in Salarzai area of Bajaur Agency on Saturday. The injured included four security personnel.

According to sources, security personnel and volunteers of the tribal lashkar were returning from an area near the Afghan border when the suicide bomber blew himself up near their convoy in Khushek Neher area.

They had visited the border area to inspect check-posts.

The dead included Malik Monasib Khan, head of the Salarzai tribal lashkar, a security man and three volunteers.

The injured were taken to the agency headquarters hospital in Miramshah. Security personnel and tribesmen jointly man check-posts near the Afghan border to keep an eye on the cross-border movement of militants.
