Pakistan team leaves for West Indies tour

LAHORE: The Pakistan cricket team on Thursday departed for their tour to the West Indies, according to DawnNews.

Team Manager Intikhab Alam said he was hopeful that the young players included in the squad would prove their merit during this tour.

Shahid Afridi will captain Pakistan in the limited over format while Misbah-Ul-Haq will lead the test squad. Pakistan will play a warm-up match on April 18, while the tour formally starts from the April 21.

Meanwhile, West Indian selectors also on Thursday unveiled a thirteen-member squad for the first two ODIs against Pakistan.

The men from the Caribbean will play a five-match ODI series, in addition to one Twenty20, and two test matches against Pakistan scheduled to start from 21st April, 2011 in St.Lucia.

The Chairman of the West Indian selection panel, Clyde Butts stated that the core of the team is capable of serving for years to come.

According to him, the fresh blood inducted in the squad has the potential and the desire to succeed, and hence received the nod.

Butts added that the time was rife for making wholesome changes as the West Indians vowed to regain their lost glory at the highest level of the game.

The PCB Chairman.Selection committe,Coach,captain Where are the boys from under 19 team why dont you bring all of them up if they were good enough to play in under 19 why only a few who have parchais have made it to the senior team ??? Any Answers ???????????????

Though I would certainly wish well the Cricketers on tour to the West Indies, still, would question that the Pakistan Cricket Board should have included more youngsters in the playing side from the Under-19 squad, rather having six youngsters as reserves. The Windies tour would be a hectic one, since they also had included some ne players in the side just to get even for the humiliating defeat they had suffered against Pakistan in the World Cup quarter finals. Right now everybody was talking about that it was a well balanced side but if we were defeated, there would an about turn from all corners even from the die hards who had spoken in favor. Shahid Afridi would have to bat with his head down as much was also expected from him as a batsman and he had proved otherwise. The PCB Chief Ejaz Butt was right that it was his bowling that had saved him from being axaed for a while. The Windies tour would be a test case for much of the Old guards in the side and if they didn't live up to expectations, they should be ready for the exit.

Why Abdul Razzaq has not been selected? Why wasn't he allowed to bowl more than 3 or 4 overs match in world cup. Why wasn't he moved up the batting. Why board is being discriminatory against him.

We wish all the best to Pakistan team. One thing Afridi should remember is to hit the right ball. Its high time Shaihid Afridi must be amongst run getters.Still there is a great potential for Pakistan team to become one of the best in the world. Team effort, concentration and application are all that is required.

Good thing is that they dropped Kamran Akmal. The old guys have to make way for young guns. PCB has to show some courage, honesty and fairness in selecting players. Discipline is what one needs. Just look across the border for inspiration.....

Y not Imran Nazir In the short format of the game (ODI's and T20) He is a kind of a player, who gives a great start at the top. If Pakistan wants to win the Upcoming T20 Worldcup, they have to prepare Imran Nazir as an Opener.

i have request to Pakistan team management please take batting coach while team are playing in west indies, if some one not agree to go with team skip him take some other experienced batsman like haroon rashid/majid khan/mohammed hanif who can give them better tips at least our team win the series

I agree 200%. I have been asking this questions for past 3 years. Imran Nazir can just rip through the best bowling attack and score the runs independently. Not playing Razak in the right place is another oversight. Both these players can take the match away from the opponents in few overs. Play them and provide encouragement to entice youngsters to emulate them. Pakistan has great talent. Go green Go!

In current Pakistan team professionally ASAD SHAFIQ looks like a potential candidate for the captaincy on similar ground of South Africa when they made Grame Smith their national skipper. Those who are trying to recommend UMAR AKMAL as future captain mean they want that Pakistan team will play under him for the BOOKIES.Brig back Mohammad Sami and Shoaib Akhtar in the team also Inzizam should come out or retirement to help Pakistan squad and Asad Shfaiq can be make his deputy.

Good Luck Pakistan Cricket Team. Please appoint Afridi captain for tests also. Despite of not performing the duties of a team captain correctly against India in the recently concluded world cup. Afridi should be the skipper for all three formats in cricket for Pakistan and appoint him leader for three to five years. It will do good to Pakistan Cricket and also Afridi.

Hi. I had strong Feeling that Pakistan Will win the series in T20 and in ODI. After Loosing against INDIA in world cup semi final, Pakistan players got tremandous support through out from the nation and from the fan around the world. It will be enough to encourage their spirit and will bring them united. Good Luck and all the Best to Afridi. My advise to Afridi, Please cool down and watch before making any comment in Media. It may affect to your team players's performance and to your country. Create the good image of Pakistan. My Suggestion to Pakistan Cricket control Board: If you are thiniking to introduce the similar cricket league tournmanet like IPL in Pakistan to bring all cricket player to Pakistan to Play cricket then first start to introduce the similar league for UNDER 19 Cricket Team. The player under 19 will not be prevented by their home country to visit in Pakistan and they will enjoy the tournament like English county and will not have more financial burden to Pakistan cricket Board. This will be helpful to bring senior players to visit Pakistan.Under 19 player are free to travel without any fear. Regards Veeran
