LARKANA: Re-polling demanded

Published October 15, 2002

LARKANA, Oct 14: Three candidates of the Sindh Democratic Alliance (SDA) from NA-206, PS-39 and PS-42 called for re-polling on the three constituencies.

The demand for re-election was made in a joint statement, which also blamed their opponents of rigging.

All three SDA candidates — Syed Asghar Hussain Rashdi (NA- 206), Ali Hassan Hakiro (PS-39) and Pervez Ahmed Pechuho (PS-42) — have lost to the People’s Party Parliamentarians candidates.

They accused the local bodies’ representatives, most of whom are affiliated with the PPP,of irregularities on the polling day.

Denial of result certificates, and obstructing their polling agents’ access to the polling stations paired with the eleventh hour change of the polling staff were proof enough for rigging, they said.

They also accused their opponents of using fake identity cards for casting votes.—Correspondent
