ISLAMABAD, March 15: The capital administration is all set to launch a major campaign against the sale of cigarettes and sheesha to minors, Dawn has learnt. Sheesha, also known as a water pipe, is a single or multi-stemmed (often glass-based) instrument offers flavoured tobacco in which the smoke is cooled and filtered by passing through water.

The capital city has seen a mushroom growth of sheesha sellers during the last few months as different kiosks and cafes have started offering flavored sheesha at prime business commercial centres.

Deputy Commissioner Amir Ali told Dawn on Tuesday that sale of sheesha and cigarette to under-age was completely banned but the law needs to be implemented.

“Initially we have started an awareness campaign for the sellers to discourage the sale of cigarette to under-age children,” the deputy commissioner Amir Ali, told Dawn on Tuesday.

In a later stage, he said, the administration would fine all those who violated the ban. — Staff Reporter
