CHINIOT: Feb 13: Eleven family members, including five women, were booked for attacking a police party and getting an accused released from their custody at Yakay Ki village on Sunday. Reports said that Chenab Nagar police arrested wanted man Safdar after a raid on a den of criminals. In the meanwhile, Malik, the father of the accused, and other relatives, Mamman, Ismael, Sarfraz, Shaukat, Shahid, Manzoor Bibi, Faiz Bibi, Dai Bibi, Saima Bibi and Safia Bibi, reached the spot and attacked the police party with iron rods besides resorting to aerial firing. They ripped to shreds uniforms of constables, Munir Ahmed and Amir Nazir, and also got the accused released from the police custody.

Chenab Nagar police later registered a case against 11 family members of the accused under sections 353/324/224/186. Police also arrested Saima Bibi and Safia Bibi.

Relatives of the accused told reporters that they did not attack the police party and instead their houses were raided, women tortured and their animals and Rs300,000 in cash plundered. SP (Investigation) Rana Azeem and the acting DPO claimed that the accused was a hardened criminal and his family members provided him shelter.

They also denied the charges leveled against the police party.
