DADU, Jan 26: Four people died in an armed clash between two groups of villagers belonging to Chandio and Syed communities in Mohib Chandio village near here on Wednesday. According to eye witnesses, one Dadan Chandio was allegedly shot dead by the Syeds over the use of a street on which a number of houses of Syeds are located.

To avenge murder of Dadan, armed men from Chandio clan attacked houses belonging to Syeds which was returned. In the exchange of fire Hashim Shah, Gada Hussain Shah, Mehboob Chandio and Zafar Chandio lost their lives.

The attackers also torched many houses. Firing between the two groups continued till evening.

A heavy contingent of police, led by DSP of Dadu Bashir Ahmed Mangi, arrived in the village and asked the armed men to surrender but they refused.

However, police managed to take bodies to the Civil Hospital Dadu for post-mortem.

Officials said that police had controlled the situation and added that members of the warring groups had been involved in criminal activities in the past.

Our Sukkur correspondent adds: Three men were shot dead near the village of Gulzar Kharos in Bagerji on Wednesday.

Mohammad Bachal Kharoos, Shahzado Kharoos and Muhabbat Kharoos were going on a tractor trolley. When they reached near the village, armed men hiding in the area opened fire, killing them on the spot.

Police took the bodies to the Civil Hospital of Sukkur. After a post-mortem, the bodies were handed over to relatives.

The killing is linked to a land dispute between two groups of farmers.

Tension gripped the area after the incidence.
