KARACHI, Oct 4: The renovation and expansion work of the Sindh Assembly Building here is in full swing and will be completed before the start of the first session of the newly elected assembly to be held next month.

According to the Secretary of the Assembly, Hadi Bux Buriro, the seating capacity of the assembly hall is being increased from 116 to 170.

He said Rs57 million are being spent to increase the seating capacity of the hall, repair the dome and replace the audio system and AC plant, as well as beautifying the assembly.

“We have consulted all the former speakers, chief ministers’ and leaders of (the) opposition before undertaking the renovation work, and all of them are of the view that no alteration should be made (to) the historical building”.

It was in this august building that the first resolution in support of the creation of Pakistan was moved by G.M. Syed.

It was on August 14, 1947 that the ceremony of the transfer of power from British rule to the newly established state of Pakistan was held here.—APP
