PESHAWAR, Jan 13: Police have arrested five members of a robbers’ gang in Yakatoot and recovered over Rs1 million from their possession, said Peshawar police lines SSP (operations) Ijaz Ahmed while peaking at a press conference here on Thursday.

He said that the gang had robbed a businessman Zubair Ahmed of Rs189,000 at gunpoint on January 10. He said that a thief identified as Nadir s/o Shahjehan of Pando Zandai camp had been arrested, who during interrogation revealed the names of his accomplices.

Other accused included Jamil s/o Saifur Rehman of Zargarabad, Rehmat s/o Gul Rehman of Pakh Ghulam and Khan Zameer s/o Shehzad of Akhunabad.

The SSP said that police had so far recovered Rs1.083 million, two motorcycles and one 30-bore pistol from the robbers, who were under interrogation.

He said that the main accused Nadir was picked up on suspicion, who disclosed names of his accomplices.
