MIRAMSHAH, Jan 13: At least seven people were killed and 13 others wounded when mortar shells fired from across the border in Afghanistan hit some houses in Teet Madakhel area of North Waziristan Agency on Thursday, officials said.

They said that most of those killed and injured were women and children, adding that more than 15 mortar shells had landed inside Pakistani territory.

The sources said that a group of militants had attacked a Nato base at Terkhubi in Afghanistan prompting the Afghan National Army and foreign troops there to retaliate.

A report received from South Waziristan said that eight mortar shells fired from Afghanistan also landed in Angor Adda area in Pakistani territory. No details about any loss to human life or property were immediately available.
