MIANWALI, Jan 13: At a time when it is hard to get even a single job, an over-smart schoolteacher not only secured two government posts but had also been drawing salary for the both jobs for the last 14 months.

However, the 'party' got over for Muhammad Asim Sultan on Thursday when he was nabbed by a raiding team headed by the district coordination officer (DCO).

District Monitoring Officer (DMO) Amanullah Khan said during his routine visits to primary school at Madadwala village, he often found Muhammad Asim Sultan, an educator, absent from his duty.

On inquiry, Sultan's colleagues revealed he was a regular employee at the Allama Iqbal Open University's Regional Centre and only visited the school for drawing his salary, he added.

The DMO reported the matter to DCO Tariq Mehmood who raided the AIOU Regional Centre on PAF Road along with the DMO and the district education officer and found Sultan working as a clerk there. The accused was allegedly drawing salaries for both jobs.

The raiding team seized the relevant record and the DCO ordered an inquiry into the matter.

The DCO said he had been informed that many other teachers were also involved in such frauds and were drawing dual benefits. He ordered the DMO to check the record of all the suspected teachers in the district and take action against them under the law.

AIOU Regional Coordinator Hashim Khan said Sultan was on the varsity payroll since March 1, 2008, but it was not known that he also got selected as an educator in Nov 24, 2009. REPORT DENIED:

Both the DCO and the Wapda EXEN concerned have denied a press report that electricity used during inauguration ceremony of a mobile health unit in Madoranwala village a few days back, attended by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, was stolen through a 'kunda'.

DCO Tariq Mehmood said that before the scheduled visit of the chief minister, he sent a letter to the Wapda EXEN to make arrangements for electricity supply for the function as per rules.

The Wapda authorities charged Rs2,600 as security in advance and Rs2,500 electricity consumption charges would also be paid. No illegal method was used for the purpose, he claimed.

EXEN Maula Dad Khan endorsed the DCO's statement and said on receipt of a letter from DCO Office, he got permission for 50KV generator from Sargodha superintendent for the function in view of loadshedding.

Meanwhile, he said, according to rules direct supply of electricity was also arranged from the main line which seemed like a 'kunda'.

He claimed a meter was also installed at the back of the tents erected for the event.

He said the DCO Office had already deposited security fee and now we served them the bill for 58 units consumed during the function.
