Chakwal lawyers condemn

CHAKWAL, Jan 12: The lawyers of Chakwal on Wednesday boycotted the courts to protest the cold blooded murder of the parents of the Supreme Court judge Justice Javed Iqbal.

They at a meeting, presided over by the District Bar Association president, Ch Ashfaq Kahoot, unanimously demanded stern action against the assassins.—Correspondent

913 policemen punished

ATTOCK, Jan 12:  The district police have awarded punishment to 913 police officials in 2010 for their involvement in extortion, corruption, negligence, poor investigation , absence from duties and other serious misconducts, it has been learnt.

Sources in the district police disclosed that the punishments range from dismissal, suspension, reduction in pay, demotion, holding of increments, forfeiture of service, censure and other penalties.

The police personnel found involved in illegal activities and misconduct in last Year-2010 were:  50 inspectors, 174 sub-inspectors (SIs),  52 ASIs, 19 head constables and 618 constables. — Correspondent

Taxi snatching bid foiled

ATTOCK, Jan 12:  Robbers attempt to snatch a taxi near Langar village of  Bahtar Police station was foiled by motorists passing through the road, police said.

Police said on Wednesday that the taxi driver Rafique Ahmed reported to Bahtar Police station that five persons hired his taxi from Pirwadhai taxi stand for Akhori village on Tuesday evening.

On reaching near Langar village, they tried to snatch his vehicle on gunpoint. But they fled when some motorists viewing the scene stopped their vehicles.— Correspondent

House looted

GUJAR KHAN, Jan 12: A house was looted and cattle stolen in two incidents in Gujar Khan police area on Tuesday Night.

Sheikh Ahmed Saleem, a trader of Gujar Khan city, reported to the local police that on Tuesday at about 8 pm three armed men barged into his house and held the inmates at gun point and took away gold ornaments worth Rs1 million and a 32 bore pistol. Haji Mohammad Ramzan, resident of Bhaagsana village, reported to the police that thieves took away four cows, four calves and a goat during from his cattle pan on Tuesday. — Correspondent

Clean drinking water sought

ISLAMABAD, Jan 12: The residents of Sowan Union Council are facing acute water shortage and are left with no option but to arrange the water through tankers.

Because of the water scarcity the people are forced to pay Rs500 for a tanker. Local residents claimed that the water supply lines had been lying damaged for the last few months to the apathy of the authorities concerned.

A resident of the locality, Mustafa, said most of the water went waste due to leaking pipelines. They requested the authorities to install water filtration plant in the area.

Fazal Hameed, another resident of the area, said that their complaints fell on deaf ear of the authorities concerned.

The residents said that unavailability of water was creating intense problems amongst the residents.

People demanded the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to take this issue and repair the rusty water pipelines of the locality.—APP
