ATTOCK, Dec 2: The personnel of army and Pakistan Rangers will be deployed at 30 sensitive places in the district to assist the local administration in maintaining law and order during Muharram.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, District Coordination Officer (DCO) Shakeel Ahmed and District Police officer (DPO) Dr Mohammad Akhtar Abbass said 30 points in the district have been declared ‘very sensitive’. They said 28 Muharram processions, out of total 146, were also declared sensitive. They added that policemen and Elite Force would be on high alert for peaceful holding of processions and majalis. The officials said out of 754 majalis in the district, 171 are in category ‘A’ , 40 in ‘B’ and 543 are in category ‘C’.

Besides the troops, over 3,000 officials of police and other law enforcement agencies would be deployed throughout the district, they said.

The organisers have been asked to deploy volunteers at the entry points of majalis and processions to ensure search through metal detectors and walkthrough gates, they said. Police and other law enforcement agencies would keep a check on the movement of religious extremists, proclaimed offenders and outlaws, they said.

The two officials said a code of conduct has been sent to religious leaders, adding that it bans misuse of loudspeakers, distributing or publishing objectionable literature and provocative speeches.

MURREE: Security plan for Muharram processions has been finalised for the hill station.

The plan was finalised at a meeting which was attended by police, Rescue 1122, revenue officials, traders’ representatives, ulema and notables.

The tehsil municipal officer told the meeting that tight security will observed during the processions to prevent any unpleasant incident.

He appealed to ulema, traders, Rescue 1122 and hospitals staff to remain alert and cooperate with the administration in peaceful holding of processions.

He said walkthrough gates would be installed and shops on the route of processions would be kept closed.

He said a traffic plan had been chalked out for Muharram 9 and 10 and the procession routes would be closed for all kinds of traffic.
