KARACHI, Sept 23: The Karachi Electric Supply Corporation started a one-hourly rotational loadshedding on Monday as it faced a power shortage, says a press release.

It adds that due to a sudden fault at one of Hubco-Jamshoro 500 kilovolt line and maintenance of a 450-MVA transformer at Jamshoro the Wapda-KESC link could not supply the maximum of 270 megawatts electricity to the city until 5.30pm. Besides, the gas turbines at SITE and Korangi power stations could not generate 180 megawatts due to non-availability of gas.

The press release says the KESC faced a power shortage of 90 to 120 megawatts during the day which was overcome by proportional shutdowns for equitable distribution of the electric supply to the city between 10am and 5.30pm.

“KESC officials were making efforts to persuade the SSGC to divert equal quantities of 16MMCFD gas to the SITE and Korangi gas turbines, which will help KESC generate 180MGW.
