KARACHI, Nov 23: Two young brothers were shot dead at their doorstep in Bhitaiabad, a slum near the airport, within the remit of the Sachchal police station on Tuesday. The area police said the double murder seemed to be the result of personal enmity caused by a property dispute between the victims and the assailants. They also said the aggrieved family cited a friend of the victims' as one of the attackers.

“Early in the day, a few men came to the house of Ahmed Omar in Bhitaiabad,” said Sub-Inspector Asif Jakhrani, the SHO of the Sachchal police station. “On the fist knock at the door, 25-year-old Rizwan Sherani opened the door. A few seconds later the family inside heard a single gunshot. Rizwan's elder brother Owais Sherani rushed to the door.”

He said the attackers shot the elder brother also and escaped. However, he said, the family claimed they saw a friend of Rizwan's running from the crime-scene with other suspects.

“The victims originally hailed from Quetta and kept visiting the city for business. They had become embroiled in a dispute with another party on a piece of land, while the family also hinted at their rivalry with a brother-in-law of the victims,” said the SHO of the Sachchal police station.

The bodies were handed over to the family after medico-legal formalities at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. The police said an FIR would be registered against the persons suspected by the family to be involved in the murders after the burial of the two brothers. Driver tortured, shot dead A young driver, who had gone missing on Monday night, was found shot dead in North Karachi on Tuesday, police said.

They suspected that 29-year-old Qamar Saeed was kidnapped and tortured before being killed. His body bore eight bullet wounds.

“The body was found lying abandoned near Masjid-i-Aqsa in Sector 5C-2 of North Karachi,” said an official at the Khwaja Ajmer Nagri police station. “He was a driver and lived in the Drigh Road area, near the Masoom Shah Bukhari shrine.”

The victim had been missing since Monday night and had left the home to see a friend but did not return. He hailed from Peshawar city.
