CHAKWAL, Oct 16: A ‘landmark ceremony’ to mark the beginning of centenary celebrations of Chakwal’s Government High School No 1 is being held on Sunday.

Likhandar Singh Bahal, the grandson of school’s founder Sant Singh, Rattan Deep Singh, and a former student of the school have reached Pakistan.

Both the distinguished guests from New Delhi would be accompanied by Justice Khaleelur Rahmn Ramday as Justice Ramday has a deep bond of friendship with Likhandar Singh. The district police have taken special security measures for the occasion.

The school was founded on October 17, 1910 by Munshi Sant Singh and his five students. Initially, there was only one room but later more rooms including a hall were constructed in ‘H’ shape.

All the money for construction was donated by Hindus. Since its inception the school is rendering excellent services to the cause of education.

The school has produced many famous bureaucrats including Arif Nakai (former chief minister of Punjab), Afzal Kahoot (ex-secretary establishment division), Lt-Gen (retired) Abdul Majeed Malik, (famous politician), Lt-Gen Yaqub Khan (current DG of Pakistan Rangers), Maj-Gen Mohammad Mozaffar Kahoot and Ch Amir (ex-secretary Pakistan Railways).

Today 59 teachers, under the command of Headmaster Abid Hussain Kiyani, are performing duties with 1,650 students studying at the school. — Correspondent
