KARACHI: 549 honour killings in 8 months

KARACHI, Sept 13: As many as 549 women became victim of the barbaric custom of karo-kari during the last eight months in Pakistan.

According to a report issued by the Madadgar, 45 killings were reported in January, 45 in February, 54 in March, 55 in April, 92 in May, 78 in June, 112 in July and 66 cases of karo-kari in August.

Besides, 549 women, 106 male, 19 female and three male children also became victim of the tradition during the period.

Of the 667 cases of Karo Kari highlighted by the press, 377 were acknowledged in Sindh, 227 in Punjab, 41 in Balochistan and 32 in NWFP.

In 233 cases of karo-kari the perpetrator was husband.—PPI
