ICMAP a step forward

Published June 10, 2010

I SAW an advertisement in Dawn that the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Pakistan (ICMAP) is commencing an under-graduate programme CAM (Certificate in Accounting and Management). I went through the programme's details at its website and found it useful for students who have passed their Intermediate or A levels.

This is a four-semester programme containing 19 courses, including 17 examinations and two non-examination courses. After completing the semesters, there will be six months of practical training which will facilitate students in enhancing their practical capabilities and they will be able to compete in the market. The subjects are well chosen and meet market requirements.

The majority of students who have completed their intermediate have had the privilege to do B.Com, but now they have a better choice as after completing their intermediate they may join this programme. When they are through with it they are likely to get a good job and serve as a competent professional.

We are all aware that our income elasticity is low, so while working they may continue their studies at the institute so as to get a better job with a better degree in the near-future.

After the completion of CAM, ICMAP will exempt the students from nine of their papers so as to enable them to save approximately one year.

Being a teacher, I firmly believe that this programme will enable students become confident, competent and socially-responsible members of the community. I wish and pray for their success.
