FAISALABAD, June 6 Scores of people on Sunday threw traffic out of gear on Jaranwala Road to protest murder of a youth by robbers.

The relatives, joined by traders and shopkeepers of Makoana, Chak 209 and adjoining areas, placed the body of the boy on road and burnt tyres. They chanted slogans against the police for their failure to protect the lives and properties of the masses.

Robbers had on Saturday night snatched Rs40,000 in cash and cell phone from 20-year-old Munir Ahmad, a resident of Chak 216-RB at Khurrianwala. They also shot the boy.

A heavy police contingent reached the protest site and informed the public that a case had been instituted against the robbers who would be arrested soon.

Talking to reporters, the family of the deceased and many other people said the police had failed to perform their duties and the masses were left at the mercy of robbers.

Meanwhile, death of a pregnant woman at the District Headquarters Hospital owing to alleged negligence of the doctors sparked protest. Hafizan Bibi, 24, a resident of Chak 408-GB (Tandlianwala), was brought to the hospital where, her family said, the doctors failed to operate upon her in time resulting in her death.

DHQ hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Mukhtar Randhawa told reporters that the doctors treated the woman with utmost care but she was suffering from hepatitis.
