KARACHI, Aug 22: About 15 candidates of the MBBS first prof-2002 examinations are running from pillar to post for their results, while authorities at the University of Karachi have failed to take any plausible action.

Sources at the campus said that at the eleventh hour, the examination section of KU withdraw the names of about 50 students, doubting their admissions at the Sindh Medical College in 2001.

There were reports that a number of students in question had managed to gain admissions on false grounds and that a KU committee — after initial enquiries — had found a discrepancy in 53 admissions at the SMC in the said year.

However, the college administration had contested the findings of the committee and sent a list of students to the university maintaining that many of the students were admitted in accordance with the merit list prepared for admission.

After not finding their names either on the list of successful students or that of candidates whose results were withheld, many students said that they feared having failed the examinations, which was highly shocking and embarrassing for them.

Finally, the perturbed students contacted the vice-chancellor of the university and maintained that the action of keeping silent over their results was unjustified, as they had appeared in the examination after fulfilling all prerequisites and rules of admission. At least 15 students have submitted their applications supported by evidence that they were genuine, and that there was no foul play in the process of their admission to the SMC.

Students are in a state of mental agony, but KU officials are deferring the issue with one excuse or another, said a female student, urging the controlling authority of the university to intervene and order the release of results of thestudents who were clean.
