KARACHI Paying tribute to the 'wild child' of the global fashion industry, Alexander McQueen, who died recently, Lahore-based designer Fahad Hussayn opened day three of the Fashion Pakistan Week with his collection entitled 'My awkward Musen — my murderer'.

Taking some of his inspiration from the Viking kings as well as using elements from McQueen's own style, Fahad put together a collection that was, in the words of one of the foreign buyers present, “a work of art”.

With excessive use of fur, net and chantille, Fahad's western-wear creations included a lot of layering in the colours of white, beige, yellow, deep brown and pale purple. He had included carefully and painstakingly gilded metal and copper detailing on the dresses and the sleeves of both his menswear and women's wear creations. Some of his models sported elaborate blonde wigs eagle's wings carefully attached to them. Some of the wigs carried intricate ivory horns. Fahad Hussayn also created customized bejeweled, gold-wired, stone-encrusted jewellery that the models sported as well.

Menswear designer Munib Nawaz showed a complete black collection titled 'Resort 2015'. The clothes were ready-to-wear summer outfits consisting of black kurtas, pants, short coats etc.

Actor Mohib Mirza opened the show for him in an elaborate choreoghy that he displayed when he entered at both the beginning and at the end of the ramp. Rock stars Omran 'Momo' Shafique and Sikandar Mufti from the band 'Mauj' also did the final walk on the ramp for Munib Nawaz. While walking, Omran Shafique also displayed his inclination towards dance.

Designer Adnan Pardesy showed a collection entitled 'Chthonic'. According to the designer the collection symbolized “a depiction of the shades of earth and a story that unfolds the beauty of autumn with minimalism serving as the central vein.” The designer wowed all present with an elaborate and elegant display of architectural design and construction along the colour palette of white, black, navy, silver, blue, brown, charcoal and red.

The sheer fabric of his dresses was painstakingly quilted as he presented both his menswear and women's wear collection — some of which was considered to be very futuristic. His collection also included a full length, ruffled dress in the manner of flower petals in pale purple with a hint of quilting on one of the shoulders. The models were styled in simple yet elegant wired nets, some of which served as minimal hats. With this collection the designer remained true to his identity of creating elaborate structure in his garments with attention to details. Adnan Pardesy closed the evening with his collection and also received a standing ovation from the fashion community.

Other designers who showed on day three included Aiesha Varsey, Aijaz Aslam, Bina Sultan, Malaysian designer Eric Choong, Maheen Khan and Ather Hafeez, Sana Rizwan, Summaiya Warsi and Zainab Sajid (who also showed her bridal wear line).
