KOHAT, Aug 15: The Kohat police foiled an attempt to smuggle huge quantity of drugs and fake currency from Darra Adam Khel into Punjab via Kohat and arrested five professional carriers on provincial boundary in Shakardarra on Monday.

The police was tipped off that some carriers who had got a consignment in Darra Adam Khel would try to smuggle it through Shakardarra into Punjab on Sunday.

The Lachi police, who started patrolling the mountains on Sunday night, foiled the smuggling bid. The smugglers, after noticing the presence of the police, returned back but on Monday afternoon came over again and tried to cross into Punjab a second time. During the ensuing shootout, one of the smugglers, Gul Moin, was seriously injured.

Three carriers withdrew into the thick jungle leaving behind the consignment, the Lachi police told Dawn.
