KHAIRPUR, Feb 28 Ten people were injured when a locally-made bomb exploded in a house near Thari Mirwah on Sunday morning.

Two of the injured were children and four women.

The injured were identified as Najamuddin Islami and wife Hajul, Haji Hamzo and wife Kamalan Khatoon, Qabool Mohammad, Kamal, Samina, Hajiani alias Wadan and two children Imran, 7 and Ashfaq, 5.

Police took the injured to rural health centre in Thari Mirwah and nine of them were later shifted to the Civil Hospital in Khairpur.

A bomb disposal personnel from Sukkur visited the site of the blast and said the device had one pound of explosive.

The owner of the house Najamuddin told journalists that a shopping bag hanging on a date palm near his house exploded when they tried to open it.

Our Sukkur correspondent adds A nurse at the Khairpur civil hospital has said that four of the critically injured people were taken to the combined military hospital in Pano Akil in the evening.

Pandhi Khan Jatoi, a head constable at Thari Mir Wah police station, meanwhile said that the statements given by the injured contradicted each other because some of them said the bag containing the explosives had been brought from 'outside' while the others said it had been lying in the house.

Inspector of Sukkur bomb disposal squad Tahir Malik said that the device was weighed about one pound.
