QUETTA, Feb 23 A division bench of the Balochistan High Court directed the provincial police officer on Tuesday to submit a report on target killings in the province at the next hearing on the issue on March 10.

The bench comprising Chief Justice Qazi Faez Issa and Justice Mohammad Noor Miskanzai expressed dissatisfaction over the performance of police personnel.

The court had taken suo motu notice of target killings on Feb 19 and asked the registrar of the court to register the matter as a constitutional petition.

Balochistan Chief Secretary Ahmed Shah Lehri, Home Secretary Akbar Durrani, PPO Javed Shah Bukhari and Advocate-General Salahuddin Mengal appeared in the court.

The court issued notices to the federal secretary, minister for interior, chief of police research bureau in Islamabad and provincial prosecution secretary.

The court asked president of the Balochistan Bar Association, president of the Balochistan High Court Bar Association and vice-president of the Supreme Court Bar Association to assist the bench in the case.
