GILGIT: Five die in Northern Areas

GILGIT, Aug 6: At least five persons were killed in different incidents in Northern Areas, police sources said.

Police said three children, Abid, Sharaffudin and their friend drowned in Gilgit River on Sunday when their Suzuki pick-up fell into the river at Bargu.

The driver, Abdul Hakeem, said that he had left his Suzuki at Ghizer road with his two sons and their friend, all below 13 years of age, and had gone to Bargu.

He said the children had reportedly pushed the gear of the vehicle, which started moving and fell into the river.

The police said that the children and the vehicle were missing.

A woman in Jafarabad, Nagar subdivision, committed suicide by throwing herself into the Hunza River on Sunday.

A woman in Ishkomen took her life by jumping into the Gilgit River on Sunday due to domestic dispute.
