Sukkur areas without water

Published January 2, 2010

SUKKUR, Jan 1 Many parts of Sukkur have been deprived of water supply since Friday morning when two pipelines of 12-inch and 16-inch ruptured on Royal Road in the old town.

The 16-inch pipeline carries water from the River Indus to the water works phase-III, Old Sukkur, and the 12-inch pipeline supplies water to many localities.

The taluka municipal staff reached the spot and had started repair work which, according to the area people, was being carried out at snail pace and it would take 24 hours to complete it.

When contacted, Sukkur Taluka Municipal Officer Yar Mohammad Junejo said that the pipelines, dating back to the pre-partition era, had become rusty and often burst here and there.—BoC
