MURREE, Aug 25 Local food department staff with the help of policemen at Barrian check post seized four trucks smuggling wheat flour and sugar to NWFP through Galyat, officials said on Tuesday, but police confirmed impounding two trucks.

Reconciliatory Committee Seer Sharqi chairman Raees Abbasi told reporters that four trucks were stopped at the checkpoint, however, Barrian post Moharar Mohammad Zia said police had only two trucks in their custody.

It is worth mentioning here that Barrian and Lora routes are known for smuggling of staples. Despite efforts by the authorities, the smuggling could not be stopped as some police officials and political leaders were behind the practice, locals alleged.
