QUETTA, Aug 6 The Balochistan High Court resumed its work on Thursday after a gap of several days, with newly appointed Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa taking up about 30 cases.

The court's proceedings had been affected by the resignation on Tuesday of the-then chief justice, Amanullah Khan Yasinzai, and all four judges who had taken oath under the Provisional Constitutional Order of 2007.

Supreme Court had on July 31 declared that superior court judges who had taken oath under the 2007 PCO would be proceeded against in the Supreme Judicial Council. It had also declared the appointment of Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar as the chief Justice of Pakistan as illegal and unconstitutional.

Although the former BHC chief justice and four other judges had visited their respective chambers on Monday and Tuesday, they had not heard any case.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani made a courtesy call on Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa on Thursday.

Justice Isa met former chief justice Amanullah Khan Yasinzai on Wednesday night and Mr Yasinzai assured him of his full cooperation.

According to sources, Justice Isa will meet Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry in Islamabad on Friday and discuss with him the names of jurists to be appointed as judges at the BHC.

They said that posts of 10 judges were vacant in the court, but in the first phase only four or five judges would be appointed.

Members of the bar would organise a reception in honour of Justice Isa on Friday.
