Key Taliban commander held in Shabqadar

CHARSADDA Key commander and Taliban local spokesman Hazrat Omar was arrested in a police raid in Shabqadar here on Thursday.

District police officer Mohammad Riaz told Dawn that they received a tip-off that the key Taliban figure was hiding in the area.

A police party led by the DPO himself rushed to the area and cordoned it. Taliban commander and spokesman Hazrat Omar was arrested in a house raid in Dalazak Korona. Some important documents were also recovered from him.

The DPO said the accused was shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation. The raid was conducted by DSP Shabqadar Jehan Zeb Khan and police personnel.

The DPO said that despite limited resources the police personnel were performing well. He said all entry and exit points to the district have been sealed and strict search and checking is still going on.

He said the police have tightened the noose around the criminals and dozens of the most wanted outlaws have been arrested.
