ISLAMABAD, March 19 The Pakistan Muslim League-N has called for making the office of head of state non-partisan and said that the presidency must not be used as a venue for political meetings.

Talking to reporters here on Thursday, PML-N`s secretary information Ahsan Iqbal expressed the hope that the Charter of Democracy would be implemented sincerely and the country would not be pushed to another political confrontation. No attempt, he said, should be made to defy the will of the people `for the third time`.

Mr Iqbal said that judges` restoration provided a new opportunity for political reconciliation and expressed the hope that the government would implement the democratic agenda set in the Charter of Democracy.

“This is essential for political stability and economic revival of the country.”

He said economy had shown positive trends after resignation of Gen (retd) Musharraf, but non-fulfilment of promises reversed the situation.

He said that now the situation was improving, but warned that any conspiracy at this juncture could push the country towards despondency.

Mr Iqbal urged the government to respect PML-N`s mandate in Punjab and restore its government without delay.

He described as baseless reports that anti-Sindh slogans had been raised during the long march and said the PML-N loved Sindh and its people and would not allow anyone to create disharmony among the masses.
