HYDERABAD, Feb 17 The government has been asked to take notice of land grabbers creating problems for people coming to bury their loved ones which may lead to bloodshed.

This was said by the Convener, All Parties Action Committee Kotri, Syed Irfan Ali Shah and his associates during a news conference on Tuesday.

Quoting an incident, they said that people on Monday were taking the body of a resident of Khuda Ki Basti to a local graveyard when allegedly stopped by the goons of Malik Shahnawaz, brother of Jamshoro District Nazim Malik Asad Sikandar. Speakers reminded the authorities that the graveyard was quite old with thousands of relatives and ancestors of local people resting there.

Mr Shah, accusing the land grabbers of trying to take the possession of graveyard land systematically, said that a serious situation cropped up when the funeral procession was stopped.

However, the saner members immediately informed local, political, and religious leaders whose timely intervention helped in controlling the situation he said adding that the burial took place in some other graveyard.

Therein, the leaders of JSQM, STP, SUP, ANP, JI, JUI-F, ST and other parties formed an action committee to resolve the issue of graveyard with a view to preventing future bloodshed.

He urged the authorities to set up a police picket, taking the control of graveyard land and invoking section 145 CrPC to decide the matter once for all.

He called upon the authorities to resolve this sensitive issue immediately.

STP rally Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party The activists staged a rally from Station Road to the press club in Tando Mohammad Khan on Tuesday to protest against alleged police firing on the local leader of the party, Raza Mohammad Khaskheli, in which he was injured.

Speaking on the occasion, the district president of the STP, Aijaz Ali Noonari, Alam Magsi and others said that without any rhyme or reason, a police party, led by the Tando Mohammad Khan SHO, raided the house of Khaskheli on Monday and resorted to indiscriminate firing in which Khaskheli was injured. They demanded immediate removal of the SHO and action against him.Tando Mohammad Khan SPO Syed Irfan Shah rushed to the spot and assured the protesters of justice after which they dispersed peacefully.

SUP Sindh United Party general secretary Syed Zain Shah has taken exception to a statement of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif against 1991 water accord and reminded him that the then chief minister of Punjab Nawaz Sharif had signed the accord.

In a statement faxed to Dawn, Mr Shah said that unfortunately the accord had never been implemented as a result harmonious relations among the provinces had been badly affected.

He alleged that the big province had always usurped the rights of the smaller federating units and added that nothing good could be expected from the Sharifs.
