HYDERABAD, Feb 15 Senior Member of the Sindh Board of Revenue, Ashfaq Ahmed Memon, suggested on Sunday formation of a joint committee comprising members of the chamber and the EDO of revenue for acquiring land for businessmen cooperative society, Hyderabad trade centre and Allama I.I. Kazi education village.

He said at a reception hosted in his honour by the Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry that the proposed 100-acre land for Allama I.I. Kazi education village would be insufficient because 1500-acre land had been earmarked for proposed education city project in Karachi.

He said that the project for the education village which had been in a limbo should be revived and the chamber would be taken on board in this connection.

He expressed surprise over the fact that despite tremendous increase in population over the years Hyderabad had not expanded commensurate with increase in population.

The chamber`s president Shafique Ahmed Qureshi stressed the need for a bigger plot for the chamber to establish businessmen cooperative society and be able to provide all facilities to the society residents.

He said the chamber had prepared a plan to construct its secretariat on 2000 yards with a display centre to introduce handicrafts of the rural areas of Sindh to the world market.

He suggested organising a trade fair in this regard and said a proposal for the establishment of Hyderabad business and trade centre had already been taken up with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority.

He said the chamber would provide land for the project whereas the authority would undertake the construction.

He sought the senior member`s help in getting 200 acres of land allotted on the airport road for the cooperative society and reminded him that Senate Chairman Mohammadmian Soomro had announced allotting 100 acres for the establishment of Allama I.I.Kazi education village, when he was governor.

He regretted that the proposal and the subsequent announcement seemed to have been forgotten and demanded that the project be revived.
