LAHORE, Jan 31 Four goals by penalty-corner specialist Sohail Abbas enabled Wapda to thrash Port Qasim Authority (PQA) 5-1 on day six of the final round of the 56th National Hockey Championship at the National Hockey Stadium on Saturday.

The exciting encounter saw Wapda getting as many as 11 penalty-corners of which Sohail Abbas converted four (sixth, 21st, 34th and 52nd mins) in order to get his hat-trick. Wapda`s fifth goal was scored by Waqas Sharif through solo attempt in the 48th minute.

PQA`s consolation goal was a field goal scored by Malik Shakeel in the 25th minute.

In another encounter, Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) came from behind to beat Habib Bank Limited (HBL) 3-1.

The first two goals were scored by HBL through field attempts by Azlan Khan (19th min) and Rashid (25th min).

SSGC only came into action at halftime. The 35th minute saw Shakeel Abbasi converting a penalty-corner for them, followed by two field goals by Abbas Haider (43rd min) and Saleem Khalid (46th min), which won them the match.

In the Army-Punjab encounter, Army emerged the victors by 6-2. Army earned as many as six penalty-corners of which they utilised five.

The scorers were Afzal (seventh min), Waqas Zafar (17th and 43rd mins) and Mohammad Imran (54th and 56th mins). Army`s only field goal was scored by Arshad in the 69th minute.

Nisar Aslam (58th min) and Rashid (68th min) scored for Punjab.

Meanwhile, NBP edged past Navy 1-0. The match-winner was scored by Akhtar Ali in the 48th minute.

The tray championship saw Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) beating Sindh 3-1, Pakistan Steel triumphing against NWFP 4-2, Pakistan Air Force trouncing Pakistan Television 5-0 and Capital Territories edging past Balochistan 3-2.

Sunday`s fixtures

Final round Wapda v Punjab at 11.00am; Navy v HBL at 1.00pm; PIA v PQA at 3.00pm.
