KARACHI, Feb 12: Sindh Governor Ishratul Ibad on Saturday reviewed the arrangements for maintaining peace and harmony in the province during the month of Muharram and asking to redouble the efforts to further promote sectarian harmony and unity amongst the masses.

Presiding over a meeting at the Governor's House, Ishratul Ibad said that the efforts of religious scholars, belonging to various schools of thought, for unity and brotherhood and the participation of public in these efforts were laudable. He said that during the recent years, there was a constant betterment in this regard. However, he stressed that continued and vigorous efforts were needed to further improve the situation.

The governor was briefed on the province-wide arrangements for providing the participants of Tazia processions and Majalis with all civic facilities as well as to ensure their security.

Dr Ibad ordered that wall-chalking and banners fanning sectarian hatred should be removed immediately. He said that special steps should be taken to keep the procession routes clean, besides provision of water, streetlights, sanitation and other required facilities there. He said that there should be foolproof security arrangements during the Ashra (first 10 days) of Muharram.

The governor asked the law-enforcing departments to be alert and achieve a better coordination besides strengthening the intelligence network. He asked them to be in close contact with the organizers of processions and Majalis.

Among others, the meeting was attended by Rauf Siddiqui, Sallahuddin Haider, Maj Gen Javed Zia, Asad Jahangir Khan andBrig (retd) Akhtar Zamin. -PPI
