SANGHAR: Fertilizer prices increased

Published September 19, 2004

SANGHAR, Sept 18: Fertilizer companies have made a mockery of the announcement of President General Pervez Musharraf made in the Kissan Convention a few months back, regarding reduction in the price of di-ammonium phosphate by Rs100 per bag.

This was said by Small Growers Association secretary-general Hassan Askari, Yar Mohammad Leghari of the Sindh Abadgar Board and others while talking to this correspondent on Friday.

Mr Askari said that when the President announced the package, a DAP bag was available at Rs890-Rs900, but in the few months following the announcement, its price had soared to Rs950-Rs960, and even in that case, it was not easily available.

The farmers claimed that fertilizer companies had tactically increased the price by Rs15 each month without any announcement.

Same was the case with other fertilizers - urea, nitrophos and ammonium nitrate, they added.

The package had proved to be just another eyewash, the farmers concluded.

ILLEGAL DETENTION: Khipro civil judge Shaikh Intizar Yousuf, on order of the Sanghar district and sessions judge, raided the Khipro police station on Thursday and recovered two illegal detainees.

Din Mohammad Chanhio and Ayub Shar had been languishing in lock-up for the past 18 days without a case, as evident by police failure to show any entry in their record.

The raiding judge ordered SHO Khalid Junejo and head munshi Syed Razaul Hassan to appear before the Sanghar district and sessions judge along with the record.
