GUJRANWALA, Aug 28: Around 97 union councils out of 188 in the district are running without 'citizen community boards' while the district council has refused to release development funds till the formation of CCBs, it is learnt here on Saturday.

A source said that the government had ordered the establishment of these boards in union councils during the last fiscal year.

He said the district government had also been directed that 25 per cent funds of development projects would be spent through these boards.

In all, he said, that 62 citizen community boards were constituted in Wazirabad tehsil, 36 in city tehsil council, 29 in Gujranwala Sadar and 12 in Naushera Virkan tehsil.

It is stated that large UCs had constituted more than one CCB to share maximum representation of people and completion of uplift projects with their proposals.

The source said that district Nazim Fiaz Ahmad Chattha had expressed his dismay over the slow pace of formation of these boards. He also directed Nazims of UCs to complete the process of formation of these boards immediately for the release of uplift funds.

INQUIRY: The judicial inquiry into the death of a central jail prisoner has been started on the orders of the local district and sessions judge here on Saturday.

The inquiry officer, additional district and sessions judge Nazir Ahmed, recorded the statements of jail superintendent Malik Shauket Feroze Awan and jail medical officer Dr Muhammad Asif Ali Khan. The judge adjourned the case till Aug 30.

Muzzamil, involved in a criminal case, was detained in central jail where he was allegedly killed by a deranged prisoner.

Meanwhile, a union council Nazim on Saturday appeared before court after about one year and got an interim bail to join in the investigation with the police.

Accused Nomanullah, the son of former federal minister Amanullah Khan and brother of city council Naib Nazim Ehsanullah, was involved in a murder case.

He had absconded after the murder incident.

Baghbanpura police would investigate the case against him.
