GUJRANWALA, July 22: A joint raiding team of the district administration and the police unearthed a fictitious cement manufacturing factory here on Thursday at Ittefaq Colony.

The team recovered 200 bags of fake cement and arrested the owner.

Reports said Iftikhar Ahmad had been running a fake cement manufacturing factory with the help of his accomplices for the last two years.

On a tip-off, the team, led by a judicial magistrate seized the raw material, 200 bags of cement and arrested Iftikhar Ahmad. His accomplices managed their escape by jumping the wall of the factory.

BOOKED: As many as 11 activists of a student organization were booked by Kamoki police on charges of pelting stones on a bus here on Thursday.

Reports said the bus (KP-9581) was on its way from Lahore to Gujranwala. Near Kamoki, the students pelted stones on the vehicle as the driver did not stop it. Consequently, Ilyas and Iftikhar, the conductors, and some passengers sustained injuries.

Workers' protest: Industrial workers and their family members took out a rally here on Thursday on the GT Road against the privatization of social security system.

They announced that their protest would continue till the withdrawal of the privatization policy.

Gathered outside the Sheranwala Bagh on the GT Road, the protesters were carrying banners and placards and chanted slogans against the government.

Labour leaders Sardar Muhammad Adeeb, Mian Ataur Rehman, Naseeruddin Humayun Malik, Chaudhry Ghulam Rasul Warriach, Sahibzada Hatamtai and women leaders led the rally which started from the Sheranwala Bagh and ended at the Gondlanwala Chowk.

They accused the government of depriving the factory workers and their children of health and education facilities after privatizing the social security system at the behest of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank.

They announced setting up of a hunger strike camp outside the office of former municipality on Aug 4.
