HYDERABAD, July 3: Thar Rangers commandant Lt-Col Arshad Naeem Ahmed has said that the task entrusted to the rangers by the Sindh government to ensure water supply to tail-end areas will be performed with commitment and devotion.

In a statement faxed to Dawn on Saturday, Col Ahmed said that initially the Thar Rangers had started patrolling along the banks of Mithrao canal.

He said that meetings were held with the irrigation department and local administration to identify factors leading to water theft. He warned that strict action would be taken against the water thieves regardless of their influence.

He said that the Thar Rangers would ensure water supply to the tail-end growers. He appealed to the people to identify water thieves to enable the rangers to take action against them.

KOTRI BARRAGE: For the first time in the current summer season, the water level at the Kotri barrage has crossed five digits as the water level on Saturday at upstream Kotri was recorded at 42,043 cusecs.

For the first time since June 14, some 5,529 cusecs water was also released downstream Kotri.

It might be recalled that following the supply of contaminated water from the Manchhar lake through the Aral Wah in May resulting in the death of about 40 persons, 10,000 cusecs of water was released downstream Kotri to improve the situation.

Since then no water has been released downstream Kotri barrage.

The Kotri barrage authorities said that some 16,725 cusecs of water was flowing in the new Phulelli canal, 9,678 cusecs in old Phulelli, 7,450 cusecs in the K.B. feeder and 2,640 cusecs in the Akram Wah.

ARMY RECRUITMENT: The Army Selection and Recruitment Centre, Hyderabad, has announced its mobile recruitment programme for the month of July.

According to programme, the recruitment team will visit the municipal committee of Sanghar on July 6, municipal committee of Nawabshah on 7, town committee of Digri on 14, town committee of Mithi on 15, town committee of Umerkot on 17, town committee of Tando Mohammad Khan on 19, municipal committee of Badin on 21, town committee of Hala on 22, municipal committee of Mirpurkhas on 24 and municipal committee of Nawabshah on 29.
