SAHIWAL, Jan 17: A robber was killed while his two accomplices sustained injuries in an encounter with police on Sahiwal-Noorshah Road near Kot Khadim Ali Shah here early on Saturday morning.

Three armed robbers picketed on the road and started looting wagons and other vehicles. They also intercepted the car (SLK-533) of PML-Q leader Muzaffar Shah Khagga and looted him as well. The robbers also captured and looted constable Abdul Razzaq. Taking an opportunity, the constable slipped away and reported the matter to Kot Khadim Ali Shah police post.

A police party rushed to the spot and challenged the outlaws. In panic, the robbers opened fire on police which was returned. Consequently, one of the robbers died instantly while his two accomplices suffered bullet injuries. The injured outlaws, identified as Qasoo and Teddy, beat a retreat under the cover of darkness, leaving behind the body of their accomplice. The dead outlaw was identified as proclaimed offender Azhari.

Meanwhile, unidentified bandits barged into the house of Pir Qayyum Shah Khagga, Noorshah union council Naib Nazim, and injured his son Zulfiqar on resistance during a dacoity.

He was hastened to a local hospital where his condition was stated to be serious.

Police have registered cases with no arrest.

ARRESTED: An FIA team headed by a judicial magistrate arrested a Mepco meter inspector for allegedly taking bribe for installation of a meter at Chak 105/7-R.

Maqsood Ahmed had given Rs1,000 in advance to inspector Siraj Din for the provision of meter. Maqsood informed the FIA on which the team headed by judicial magistrate Ziaullah Chaudhry conducted a raid and recovered the balance payment of Rs1,500 from the accused.

A case has been registered against the accused.
