KARACHI, April 24: The updated and renovated Paediatrics Surgery Department at Civil Hospital Karachi has been inaugurated with capacity to provide required medical assistance to some 4000 child patients annually besides 1000 emergency cases.

Dr Talat Mehmood, in charge of the department, while briefing Dow University Vice-Chancellor Prof Masood Hameed Khan said that the facility equipped with the latest gadgets could also offer provision for electro-surgery and no less than 650 patients could avail it annually including 250 of emergency nature.

He mentioned that renovation of the ward was supervised by the doctors associated with the ward itself through support of local philanthropists who did not want to disclose their identity and shunned publicity.

Prof Masood Hameed extremely appreciative of the spirit of humanity and service reflected by donors urged doctors to realize their responsibility towards the ailing humanity. He acknowledged commitment on part of Dr Talat Mehmood, Prof Dure Sameen Akram and Dr Mohammad Shahab besides many others who helped getting the project materialized.

Civil Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Said Qureishi underscored the need for equal upgradation of all departments with adequate provision for qualified professionals.

It was stated that the refurbished ward required well-qualified staffers, both doctors and nurses, besides adequate allocation of funds for its maintenance. Donors are required to support the cause and meet the recurring expenditure with necessary and constant vigilance. — APP
