KARACHI, April 16: The Dow University of Health Sciences held an international mushaira on the lawns of Baradari on Friday night, says a press release.

It says that apart from the poets who took part in the mushaira, the Sindh governor and the home minister presented choice couplets to the audience. Leading humourist Mushtaq Ahmed Yousufi presided over the mushaira.

Paying tribute to Mr Yousufi, Dr Asif Farrukhi said that the present era could be called “The age of Yousufi.”

The largely attended mushaira continued well into the early hours of Saturday. The poets were presented with Sindhi caps and ajraks.

The poets who recited their verses at the mushaira included Mumtaz Nasim, Rehana Nawab, Khushbir Singh, Afzal Minglori, Nadeem Siddiqui, Adil Lucknawi, Manzar Bhopali, Umar Salim al-Udoos, Dr Sabiha Saba, Sarwar Javed, Prof Sahar Ansari, Anwar Shaoor, Rauf Siddiqui, Naqqash Kazimi, Tajdar Adil, Iqbal Haider, Tariq Sabzwari, Rashid Noor, Akhtar Saeedi, Khalid Alig, Iqbal Faridi, Khursheed Alam, Anwar Bari, Pervaiz Roshan, Iqbal Pirzada, Dr Khursheed Hashmi, Ajmal Siraj, Zafar Iqbal, Haider Jalissi, Jawed Manzar and Dr Rana Qamar Masood

CULTURAL VILLAGE: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan has said social, cultural activities and Aalmi Mushairas have promoted peace and harmony, and the government will take steps to encourage such events in future, adds PPI.

Speaking at the Aalmi Mushaira organized by the DUHS, he said the government was working on a few projects, including the Karachi Cultural Village. He said the government had controlled the law and order situation successfully and now people were enjoying social gatherings without any fear. Praising efforts of the DUHS vice-chancellor, Mr Khan said this mushaira would bring the health professionals more nearer to other sections of society besides giving them spiritual satisfaction.

He also appreciated efforts of the Sakinan-i-Shehr Karachi organization for organizing a series of mushairas.
