KARACHI, April 5: The Pakistan Chest Society (PCS) is organizing a regional conference on ‘Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis’ from April 9 to 10, Dr Shakil A Siddiqui, Clinical Secretary of the PCS said on Tuesday. Chest physicians from all over the country as well as from India and Bangladesh will be attending the event being organized in the backdrop of deteriorating environmental conditions and fast changing weather patterns in the world. Dr Shakil Siddiqui mentioned that pre-conference workshops for participants of the conference would also be arranged on Friday.

Workshops on ‘Advance Cardiac Life Support’, ‘Non Invasive Ventilation and Smoking Cessation’ would be held simultaneously.

Meanwhile, issues to be particularly raised during the two-day conference will be ‘Difficulties in treating bronchial asthma’, ‘Pneumonia’, ‘Inappropriate TB treatment’, ‘TB therapy related problems’ with specific reference to multi drug resistance, ‘Intestinal lung diseases’, ‘Lung cancers’, ‘Occupational pollution induced chest infections’, ‘Atmospheric pollution and indoor pollution induced ailments’, Health issues related to changing lifestyles’ and ‘Surge in smoking among youths’.

The event was said to mainly focus on educating general practitioners, family physicians and junior chest physicians, and provide them an opportunity to update their knowledge in the management of chest diseases and tuberculosis besides oncological complications.

The chief coordinator of the three-day education-cum-training programme is Prof Nadeem Rizvi. He would be supported by Dr Mirza Saifullah Baig, Dr Nausheen, Dr Shaheeena Qayyum, Dr Nisar Rao and Dr Tajammul.—APP
