SANGHAR, Jan 7: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal and Tahaffuz-i-Khatam-i-Nabuwwat took out a procession here on Friday in protest against deletion of the religion column from the passport.

Maulana Ahmed Mian Mamomadi, Maulana Abdul Ghaffar Mengal of the JUI, Mohammad Tufail of JI, Maulana Tahir Makki and Hafiz Zubair led the protesters. They warned that if the column was not restored, they would enlarge the scope of their protests throughout the country and the rulers would be toppled. The traffic on the Sanghar-Mirpurkhas road remained suspended for half an hour.

KHAIRPUR: Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal activists took out a protest procession here on Friday protesting against President Gen Pervez Musharraf who is also holding the post of the Chief of the Army Staff.

The procession was led by Maulana Mir Mohammad Meerak, district president of the MMA, while students and teachers of various religious seminaries participated in it.

Speaking to the protesters, Maulana Mohammad Meerak and others said that the uniform was the symbol of martial law, they do not want military rule but the people's government.

TRIAL DEMANDED: The Sunni Action Committee staged demonstration at different places in the district here on Friday demanded of the police to submit challan of arrested accused Qalandar Bux Jagirani, who was nominated in the murder case of Haji Mohammad Waris Janwari, father of Maulana Ali Sher Haider, president of the banned Millat-i-Islamia.
