SUKKUR, Dec 17: Twenty-six policemen were sent behind bars on Friday for their alleged involvement in an incident of firing which resulted in the death of two prisoners and escape of 10 others.

Three FIRs have been registered against them at the Naushahro Feroze police station. The policemen, one of them an ASI and three head constables, were booked under section 302, 215, 324, 256, 186, 353, 337, 325, 356 PPC and seven ATC. The incident took place on Thursday in the premises of the district and sessions court.

Those arrested include ASI Sarwar Lashari and head constables Manzoor Panhwar, Shabbir Rind and Ali Murad Khushik. The other 22 are constables. Meanwhile, of the 10 prisoners who had escaped Khooban Bhurt and Rasheed have been arrested and Ghulam Rasool Khaskheli has surrendered.

Talking to newsmen in Naushahro Feroze, Sukkur DIG Ramzan Channa said other prisoners would be arrested soon. Prisoner Saroo Rind, who was killed, was a resident of Ashraf Rind village near Bhiria city and was allegedly involved in the murder of six relatives of policeman Khuda Bux Rind.

Some villagers alleged that Rahber Rind, a relative of Saroo Rind, had been killed by relatives of Constable Khuda Bux Rind. To avenge the murder, they said, Saroo Rind had killed Sadiq Rind and Taj Mohammad Rind, father and brother respectively of constable Khuda Bux. He had also killed the policeman's four other relatives.
