GUJRANWALA, Dec 15: The Anti-Terrorism Court No 2 bailed out 32 accused involved in an attack on a municipal magistrate and his staff here on Wednesday.
Judge Mirza Rafiuz Zaman directed the accused to deposit bail bonds worth Rs25,000 each in court.
The accused were the workers of a rice mills who attacked magistrate Muhammad Zaman and his staff about a week ago when they had gone there to demolish the encroachment in Eminabad.
Police had booked the accused under the anti-terrorism act and sent them to jail on judicial remand. However, one of the accused, Abdullah, could not be released as he failed to move his bail plea.
CASE: A local court on Wednesday ordered registration of a criminal case against the Civil Lines sub-inspector and four other policemen for torturing and keeping a youth in an illegal confinement.
SI Mushtaq Cheema had taken away Tariq Shehzad from his house at the behest of his rival and kept him at the CIA staff police station. A bailiff raided there on Tuesday and recovered the victim. He was produced before court where he informed court that he was badly thrashed by the police.
RALLY: Students of various colleges took out a rally against the establishment of Agha Khan education board here on Wednesday. The rally was organized by the Islami Jamiat Talaba.
The rally started from the Government College Satellite Town and terminated at Peoples Colony after parading through various roads. Carrying banners and placards, the protesters chanted slogans against the government and Agha Khan education board.
Student leaders - Mehr Qaiser Shehzad, Bilal Anwer, Usman Rasul Ghuman and Rashid Ali Gujjar threatened to launch a country-wide protest movement if the government did not withdraw its decision.
LIFE-TERM: A local court handed down life-term imprisonment and fined Rs200,000 to a convict in a murder case here on Wednesday. He will have to undergo an additional six-month hard jail if he fails to make the payment of fine. According to the prosecution, convict Muhammad Saleem had killed Muhammad Saeed over a money dispute in Sabzi Mandi on April 29 this year.
